It is rare to see a boss drop it at an inaccessible location. I guess the pickaxe will increase a bit to around 5m or so in the next few days, and I hope it will drop to less than 2 meters (To a price a poor novice like me could pay for) when I join again, if I pay it tomorrow! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Ahahahahahaha!
A higher ping will give you the ability to "click" something faster than others with a better response time. This can be a big difference in battles over iron mining, for example. Most people can 1-hit a rock, but those with more responsive ping and response time will get more ore.
The less pings, the better. It's easy to see how it could be unfair against someone with an internet connection that really isn't ideal compared to another person's. One thing to take into consideration is the location. The closer you are to the outreaching location the higher your ping will generally be.
Generally, you can make your connection speedier by reducing the flow of traffic on your computer. This involves closing out any unnecessary programs that hog bandwidth, or increase the power of your computer (processor RAM, RAM and so on). The power of your computer will increase frame rate but it will also allow you to take more swift actions.
