This is partly why I made the switch to OSRS

OSRS feels more like the true runescape I enjoy playing than RS3. I was maximum prior to archeology, half way to 120 thieving, and that I made the conscience decision that I had rather re-max every skill from level 1 in osrs than perform rs3 and grind 1 99.

I've also transferred from rs3 to osrs lately for comparable reasons. However one difficulty I've had with games/communities is that this idea that everyone wants to max or that maxing is somehow"the stage" of this match. Coming from a Dungeons and Dragons background (which much of ancient RS was very much based on) I have never had a campaign in which our party made it beyond level 10. Even with like 3 years of playing the exact same character. I left so many distinct characters back in pre-eoc because I really embraced the Role-Playing aspect of the MMORPG. I would just set myself unique challenges or have a particular theme for the personality. Tons of replay value. Sure, after almost two decades there should be plenty of end game content. Nonetheless, it feels like that's all of the community is centered on.

My primary account is a pure f2p in rs3 with a few 99s and some more not away. I quit the game for a period of approximately five decades and returned past October. Pretty much everyone I knew in the f2p community which still plays has maxed and is now just grinding out virtual 120s/200m.

I am quite close to my intentions of obtaining 99 Defence, Prayer, and Magic, and my buddy who has maxed twice now in f2p requested me that ability I was planning to work on next. I was like... there likely won't be a next. I am getting these 99s because I enjoy them or because they were youth dreams of mine. But I don't put any value in maxing. I'm not planning to do something that I hate like Woodcutting or angling for hours just to find the numbers go up. I mean, if I was still a kid with all the time on earth I might. However, in my adult life I want a bit more from my precious free time. I want something engaging, rather than afkable.

I transferred to osrs and created an eventual Ironman. And I have put myself added thematic challenges and limits. And while I really could finally do exactly the identical thing in Rs3, I find that the unique gear system of osrs makes different account assembles more rewarding to playwith. And the community (especially YouTube content creators) is far more enthusiastic about that style of game play.
